Contrasts - Physical CD

$15.00

This is Erick Miranda’s debut album featuring Hyeji Park Miranda (piano), and Hannah Kennedy (violin). The four compositions heard on this album were arranged for saxophone by Dr. Miranda and cover a time span from the 18th to 21st century. The underlying theme of these compositions is that they each are influenced by dance. W.F. Bach utilizes baroque dance forms to compose his Sonata for Flute in E minor. Saint-Saëns’ Suite for Cello and Piano Op. 16, pays homage to the dance suite structure of J.S. Bach’s iconic cello suites. Eleanor Alberga’s Dancing with the Shadow Suite, was co-commissioned by the Lontano ensemble and Sue MacLennan’s dance company in London. Alberga’s “Duo” movement from this dance suite is what is heard on this album and utilizes rhythms that are meant to evoke dance. Bela Bartók’s Contrasts, is a collection of two Hungarian military dances with a second movement intermezzo.
